Scott,
I'm sorry I haven't been able to get back to you sooner, I've been busy.
The following thing I would suggest you do is to take all these things in your life that trigger your passion and use think about them and use that passion and joy that you get from them as you sing on the syllable "Tea." Think about the smell of homemade Thanksgiving dinner, or seeing your very best friend for the first time after a two year trip. Use that joy and keep that joy going as you do this. You should feel lit up and happy, you should project this exhiliration as well and hopefully find a connection that brings your singing alive.
Once you find this you will find the music within you and be able to connect it with your feelings and emotions. After that it's all going to be about vocalizing to improve on that. Find that connection... let go of any fears, insecurities, muscles or ideals. Just be yourself.
I'm exhausted. I hope this helps.
