Hello guys, I recorded this earlier:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jkQeKTDhRl0

I do stuff like change from mums to lyrics or just repeat random lines from songs... maybe you guys can look deeper into the problems I've been told I have...

I also raise a question in the recording about what my Fach is... based on the way you hear me talk. I recorded these questions for you guys in here in the JN forums.

Mostly its my Fach I'd like to have "classified" once and for all...

Thanks!

Hey! I'm hearing tenor as well ^_^. Though speaking voice tends correlate with vocal fach, it's not the only factor for determining baritonosity or tenorosity. I, for example, generallly speak with a brighter tone, yet I seem to be a baritone, or at least a darker tenor. I'm not sure of how exactly to tell which fachyou are, though it might help trying to hear you do your brightest and darkest tones at a variety of pitches and coordinations. In any case, don't gt caught up with what you are in terms of classification, sing what you can, and then practice so you can sing more =P. Although of course it would be nice to know what one is, for praticality's sake.

You are indeed not engaging chest quite enough in those clips, but lemme say you have awesome style! Technically though, you aren't keeping compression as you go up past your bridge. Your mums were good, sounded nice and lightly mix to me, but you werent applying that feeling to your singing. I really like your voice though, it has a dark sweetness to it, like dark chocolate! =P

At least my voice is good for something now that it ain't 100% yet haha... WHOA! Thanks for the clip. I'll listen to it but for now I'm off to school.

It's day time where I live. Thanks everyone!

EDIT: Oh yeah, I've heard that clip in another post... haha nice podcast about balance! I tend to err on the side of undercompressing... yeah I'm afraid I need to prime my voice into applying the muscle memory of the scales. Thanks, Nape!

Nape!! Just listened to it

HEY MAN!! WASSUP MAN!!!! image

I've tried that "speaking on pitch"... sometimes in class I'd say words like "What?" on an A4... but I end up with an edgy falsettic sound... I didn't really take that course of action as something I'd add in my daily regimen

but yeah, perhaps its time to go out of the box and start sustaining notes on pitches... Maybe I'll start on E4

Maybe even practice "yelling" (a controlled yell) at someone on G4 or notes above my bridge... so there will be an urgency to the compression and sound..

I really appreciate your taking the time to make the podcast. Now I have something to play around with. I hope I don't freak anybody out with it as I will do it in school..

As for the "bubs" - I think I kind of disconnect or at least go into just head (no mix) on "bub" but I think a "bwub" with a "w" works better... I should try that too... I've always been partial to mums.. (then again I must go out of the box, or out of the SS program box)...

Thanks again Nape!

Hehe, well, you've really gotta shout it out, and "burst" into it, methinks, and you've gotta try to remove all mental inhibitions. Any amount of nervousness could cause some tension that won't allow you to do it.

Yes, try "Buh"s, "Buah"s, "Nuah"s. I think the "uah" is a great double vowel, as it goes from closed to open. It just seems to work wonders for me personally. But your mums seemed good! Just make sure you keep that consistent presure and airflow as you go past your bridge. Make sure you really compress on the buahs, being dopey isn't enough. That really squeezed sound, find a good balance of it.

Yea, you can try shouting without yelling, or straining and your larynx rising uncomfortably. It'll likely rise a bit, and thats not bad, but don't let it be so that if. I don't know if I mentioned that in my podcast, but that's basically what projecting your voice is, it's similar to singing. Creating pressure for volume without straining.

Don't be afraid to be LOUD(as long as you don't hurt yourself)! If it helps, cover your mouth with like a jacket or pillow or something to muffle the sound. It will mess with resonances and maybe pressures a little bit, but if it helps so that you're not too conscious about your volume, go for it. I also recommend you try covering your ears while you're doing it so you aren't so conscious about the additional volume due to the reverberations in the room. Also try shouting words with different vowels, see how that works for you. We had a thread on shouting a while ago, lemme find it. I'll edit when I do.

Now, I don't want you to be loud all the time, and the lower volume you can mix a note, the better, but I think sustained shouting without pulling or straining is a good way to get the feeling of what its like to mix. It's how I got started anyways. Once you get used to that, bring the volume lower and lower and lower till you can do it at like speaking volume.

You also seemed to be mixing on your mum scales, try sustaining the vowel on the high note to see how that works for you.

As always, feel free to contact me via MSN/Windows Live( napilopez@hotmail.com), AIM(napylopez), or Skype(napilopez). It's hard helping people get into their mix without live correction about stuff.

Nah, I'm not worried.. but I should do this at the arcade where there are other noise... because I don't wanna be accosted for disturbing the peace. image I'll try a place like the arcade where its a little loud too... BUT I can hear myself if I speak/sing loudly.
