its realy confusing you see, i can sing in a whispery voice from chest and blend in faulsetto so easily and back down, as i increase the volume a little bit i can connect head and chest nicly and there is a nice but very week tone, as i go louder and put some more air everything breaks up, but offcourse both head and chest sound very powerful in that volume.

Now the question is, what is speech level singing, how loud should i sing the exercises along with in SS, is it the same volume as a guitar, piano, etc... please help me to compare.:\

Re: How Loud Should We sing

Really, I have been told a tid bit of information, and it seems to hold true with studying all kinds of singers. Mediocre singers are just as loud, or barely louder, than talking. Great singers are loud, but can be quiet and whispery as well.

Your volume is a by-product from the sound you want, and a few other factors, namely (to my experience) support, and the amount of chest you want in it. Play around. Being able to use all volumes is a very good thing.

Re: How Loud Should We sing

Speech level singing is described like this:

The ability to hit any given pitch with the same ease as if you were speaking.

It's not speech volume.

Experiment! Experimentation is key. As long as the end result isn't pain, you should be fine.

Re: How Loud Should We sing

I think the tone of a great singer (even while soft) has a certain "intensity", but not always a certain volume. a confident clear tone (even with a textured breathy sound) is evident when I listen to amazing singers that are in the room with me.

I recently was working with Haley Williams from paramore, Wes Hampton from the gaither vocal band, along with claude mcknight from take 6. All very different, but they all had very dynamic voices where even at low volumes the tone had a strong core that was very consistent. When they used a full mix, the sound was bigger of course but really just had more resonance that added the bigness.. it didn't really feel like they were 'blasting' or getting super loud. Its almost like they keep the mix in a certain pocket that SOUNDS thicker and fuller than it actually is.
