Hehe, well, you've really gotta shout it out, and "burst" into it, methinks, and you've gotta try to remove all mental inhibitions. Any amount of nervousness could cause some tension that won't allow you to do it.

Yes, try "Buh"s, "Buah"s, "Nuah"s. I think the "uah" is a great double vowel, as it goes from closed to open. It just seems to work wonders for me personally. But your mums seemed good! Just make sure you keep that consistent presure and airflow as you go past your bridge. Make sure you really compress on the buahs, being dopey isn't enough. That really squeezed sound, find a good balance of it.

Yea, you can try shouting without yelling, or straining and your larynx rising uncomfortably. It'll likely rise a bit, and thats not bad, but don't let it be so that if. I don't know if I mentioned that in my podcast, but that's basically what projecting your voice is, it's similar to singing. Creating pressure for volume without straining.

Don't be afraid to be LOUD(as long as you don't hurt yourself)! If it helps, cover your mouth with like a jacket or pillow or something to muffle the sound. It will mess with resonances and maybe pressures a little bit, but if it helps so that you're not too conscious about your volume, go for it. I also recommend you try covering your ears while you're doing it so you aren't so conscious about the additional volume due to the reverberations in the room. Also try shouting words with different vowels, see how that works for you. We had a thread on shouting a while ago, lemme find it. I'll edit when I do.

Now, I don't want you to be loud all the time, and the lower volume you can mix a note, the better, but I think sustained shouting without pulling or straining is a good way to get the feeling of what its like to mix. It's how I got started anyways. Once you get used to that, bring the volume lower and lower and lower till you can do it at like speaking volume.

You also seemed to be mixing on your mum scales, try sustaining the vowel on the high note to see how that works for you.
