My voice lesson with Jesse relatively speaking was one of the best lessons I had with him so far. No miracles happened, I didn't find any amazing
coordinations, I didn't sing in a high C in an amazing mix, or any of that stuff that seem to happen to other people who take lessons with Jesse.
LOL Nevertheless, I'm glad I took that phone lesson with him. We went over a lot of basic/foundation stuff that I really didn't know. I learned a bit about controlling/blowing air. The most valuable thing I learned was why I was sounding like a heady little girl. It was because I didn't understand. I thought a light chesty sound came from a heady, let go feeling. I was wrong, according to Jesse, light chest comes from a a voice that is being held on to, gripped, but with a specific amount of air blowing through. I still didn't systematically practice since the lesson, so I don't think my voice really got much better. But at least now, I know how to do LIP ROLLS the real way, and I got rid of stupid biased views I had that "tightness = bad always," and etc. Another nice thing is I don't have to worry over vocal fach, voice type, whatever anymore. It doesn't matter if I'm a soprano or if I'm a bass or any other mutation in between lol No amazing high c, no amazing secrets or anything LOL but I did get a good understanding of how the voice works in a certain aspect, about the light chest, about my voice type, about controlling, about not hesitating on the first note while vocalizing, and etc. He also helped me balance out on mums and also learn how to liproll correctly. I'm really glad I took that lesson~ The part I really sucked at was the edgy hum, but I'll just practice it and get better. I'll try to post up some basic clips of my foundational improvements : D I'm

what is your obsession with high notes about?
it´s a very common obsession among singers, but i´m curious -- why are YOU so obsessed with high notes? |

you have the key to release in your hands. NOBODY´S going to do it for you, stop looking outside. you are the closest thing to your voice and only you can find it. I´ve allowed EVERYTHING TO BE AS IT IS... good, bad or indifferent just like God does! I don´t make fun of people who are pursuing their passion to discover themselves. Very wise words musiciano! |

Actually, He is right, that your voice is neither... You are going to sound differently because of the acoustics of your environment. You gotta sing the way it feels.... Trust me man, I am going on my 3rd year, and I am just starting to be consistant about finding the right way to "feel." -David EDIT: oops...I replied to somethign in the middle of the thread and it ended up here... I hope you understand. |
