Ok guys I know I have pitch problems here but I want to know if I have the right approach. I have a low larynx and I feel both head and chest but i want to
know if I am doing it right so I know if I should stop building this habit and build something else instead. Anyways, thanks for being patient and thank my
friend James for letting me use his mac to record and share. Its my mix attempt.

wow the top end of that sounds really clear and easy
the middle sounds shaky but that might go away with practice but my ears not great |

yeah thanks s4m222 I am a natural counter tenor so I have always had adduction with my head voice and a very clearly defined head voice. I hope it does go away
with practice but this sound is being done using the least amount of air pressure as possible. I am not trying anything close to a finished sound because my
problem before was that I couldn't do my mix without being breathy. So, I spent the last couple of months trying to be able to ascend and descend without
absolutely no breathiness. Anyways we'll see how this goes.

There is no such thing as a "natural" counter tenor. "Counter Tenor" shouldn't be a vocal classification; it should be a term defining
how one sings.
Head voice is an extension of the voice. Many people view "Counter Tenor" as a vocal classification, but if that is the case, why can those Counter Tenors also sing in the range of chest voice as all other men do? For example, if a Baritone decided he wanted to sing in Opera as a Counter Tenor and started, but later, he became tired of that and started to sing Country music, would he be both a Counter Tenor and a Baritone? You can't be both! Counter Tenor should be a term - not a vocal classification - describing a male who sings in his head voice with great ease throughout songs. Jake

This is why I hate forums. Who cares, all I was saying is that I have always had a natural ability to adduct my folds in my head voice. You get on here Jake
and argue terms when I was really looking forward to your input on what you thought about the audio file. I cant stand the tc voice council forum because all
they do is argue terms. I just wanted feedback, sorry I was wrong about my term. I sing with great ease in my head voice and its much more comfortable for me
to sing in my head voice because I have no range in my chest because of bad technique (except latley).
Sorry if I was rude Jake I was just really looking forward to your specific input about my clip and...wooooooooBOOOM! |

Please don't take my comments as a personal affront; I was just setting that straight.

Yay thank you for understanding and sorry again for getting upset. I am looking forward to your input.
I would also like to hear from Josh and if Ben is even on here anymore, him too. |

Since no one else is commenting, I thought I'd put in my two cents. I REALLY wanted to wait for one of the expert guys to comment first, but none of them
really have.
To be honest, I'm kind of iffy about calling your sound a mix right now. Your sound is really based on vocal fry, and Ben talked about some of his reservations about "frying" in that sense: 0pen Mic wrote: The top does sound very good and released, but the middle stuff doesn't sound as usable. You have to move past that groggy sound to get to a truly released mix. However, I should qualify this by saying that it is a valid start according to Jesse: You can begin to achieve this by making a groggy, edgy, vocal fry at the bottom of your range. Slide that easily produced sound through the full range (what you would desire to sing in full voice) without raising the larynx. That edge, when cleaned up to a small tone and assuming perfect controlled breathing, is the beginning to learning the "efficient tone." I just wouldn't say that it's close to a finished product that you'd actually use in a song yet. Have you tried or ever recorded yourself "singing in mix" without the groggy sound? P.S. Editing the link to the converted file into the original post might help. Some people only read the first post and don't scroll down, so if they can't play the original file, they just don't comment.

cool whisper thanks for your post. Yes I have used my mix without the "groggy" sound but it sounds very tight and dopey and isn't loud or usable
in my opinion at all, and I haven't recorded it.
So I may not have adduction in my folds when I do this then? Hmm okay then what exercise could I do to get closure for sure? I mean Ben said he likes to focus on exercises that would absolutely need closure. Do you know any? Thanks for the reply I gleaned much from your comment. |
