I hated using my chest range, mostly because it sounded like mush to me.
Hearing a lot of singers that have a very buzzy, light lower chest I started realizing I had to bring the sound "forward" instead of keeping the resonance holed up in my chest, and it changed dramatically.
Its still not the greatest, but its slowly sounding better and better, definitely nothing like it used to sound. Its got an extra buzz kinda twang, kinda reminds me of Juanes, hard to describe but I definetely hear it because its so new to my ears.
Here's a part of Los Lonely Boys "More Than Love." I was trying to do a lower harmony (which I have next to know clue how to properly do it) and was improvising it gets off pitch here and there, which is why I didn't include the chorus (the higher voice came with the track so its not me):

Now...my higher chest voice is getting a little bit smoother, not as shouty and strained as before, but I'm still clueless on how to get it up there with more power.
I can connect my bridges if I concentrate but it just thins out throughout my middle octaves and I wouldn't call it mix, its more like easing into head voice.
But anyhow, please try listening to this clip from Hairspray (turn it up because its hard to hear me). I hit an F#4 without over-shouting it, so thats progress I guess, but I'm still pulling chest to get up there and it doesn't sound so awesome (stupid larynx, stay down there, mum mum MUM). Again, notes off pitch but no real excuse for it other than I don't really know this song. Just got a back track for it and had to sing it. Don't laugh too hard

But for both clips, please let me know if I'm doing anything right and how to keep improving on it, and what I'm totally getting wrong on (I know the high chest is one of them).
