Hey guys, was practicing a song or church, decided to record this. I haven't fully learned the whole song yet and I did this in one take. I need to get better at playing guitar and singing at the same time too lol So here you go, mistakes and everything

So I realized that I can sing Hallelujah now since the song wasn't in my range before. The high notes are something like Es in this song. But, it's still cool I can sing this song now : ) So I recorded it and here it is..

I bought the downloadable version last night and did some of the exercises on the first lesson disc (humming, lip and tongue trills) on the way to work this morning. When I got to work, before I turned my truck off (so noone would hear me and think I was nuts), I tried and was able to go from the bottom to the top of my range without a break, but a few hours later I tried it again and I could not do it as well. Is this normal?

I'm working on my inner hillbilly…I am from Texas after all.

I love this song and the emotions it conveys. I keep trying to get more of that, but every time I listen to the master of this song, George Jones, it's somewhat disheartening I can't really get close. If anyone has some suggestions, I'm all ears.

The Nay-Nay-Nay exercise brings the larynx up, so it activates the swallowing muscles.
The Mum-Mum-Mum exercise brings the larynx down, so one falls in falsetto for the high notes... Brett suggests Crying for solving this problem... but the Crying activates the neck(or maybe jaw) muscles.
I feel these two exersices use different muscles rather than the inner muscles of larynx to keep the cords together. I know that I'm not right... but I FEEL...! What's your opinion?

Vocal Technique?

I go into nursing homes and entertain with guitar and vocals. I have equipment that I normally use, but sometimes, I do the 'unplugged' thing. I've noticed that whenever I sing without the mic and PA, I seem to sing much better. I don't know why that is and wonder if anyone might have a clue and if so, how I can get to the point where I can get that level of singing transferred to the microphone?

So, this is my story after 3 months SS and MM in last two week. I now doing CD 5 of SS and hiting C#5. I think it is good progress because before i start with SS i have range from C3-F4. Now my range is A2-C#5.

Hello, I started Brett Manning's S.S. 6 months ago around May. After I worked on lesson 1 for a month, I have been practicing lesson 2 ever since then, marking the 5-months-of-lesson-2 period. I uploaded a recording of me doing nay back then and a recording of nays, rip rolls, mums and humming that I did today. I believe I have improved quite a lot although I still get those breaks here and there. If you believe I am doing something wrong on the exercises, please correct me.

So, I think you guys know I've never been one particularly concerned with range, but it does feel nice XD. Finally, after all these years, since yesterday I seem to have gotten a somewhat consistently replicable C5. Maybe it was a one day thing, but still, more balanced than anything I've done yet. I was just messing around in the practice rooms, not really expecting anything, but it happened! It's sucky, but it's something =P

I've always tried really hard to sound/sing like the people whose songs I was singing along to...ever since I was 12-13 years old.

Nowadays, I'm trying to write my own music and so want to find and use my own voice...but am now finding it kind of difficult to actually work out what this IS.

I've been told by people on other forums such as this that I've got a pretty good voice, but that a lot of my clips/songs sound like Kate Bush or Stevie Nicks or Karen...

Have a listen to a newbie's clips?
